L’explicit du poème (f. 40-v) permet de situer le terminus a quo : « Cy define maintenant / Ce livret, lequel Dieu donnant / Je nommé [Charles] d’Orléans / Fiz quand je eus acompli .X. ans [24 novembre 1404] ». La peinture des armes de Louis d’Orléans dans l’initiale du f. 1 rend le terminus ad quem antérieur à son décès.
