• Humfrey, Duke of Gloucester, brother of Henry V, (1390-1447), was a generous benefactor to the University of Oxford. These contemporary entries in the University’s Register record the letter of thanks to the Duke for his first gift of books, and the indenture or receipt for the 129 books dated 5th November 1439.
