  • The 'Codex Selden' (also known as 'Codex Añute').
Description
  • A screenfold of Mixtec origin, pre-Conquest in style, recording the genealogies and history from A.D. 783 to A.D. 1556 of the rulers of a place called 'Cloud Belching Mountain', identifiable as Añute (Jaltepec) in the Mixtec Alta (Oaxaca, Mexico). Similar to MS. Mex. d. 1. Mexican picture-writing. It is read starting at the bottom and winding upward in boustrophedon. Descriptions taken from A. Caso, Interpretacion del Codice Selden 3135 (A.2), Mexico, 1964. M and F have been added prior to names to differentiate between male and female figures.
