- Description
-
- Richly illuminated manuscript written in French bastard secretary
(lettre bâtarde). The scribe has not been previously identified
but appears to be Jean Dubreuil, who signed Lyons: Bibliothèque
muncipale, MS 5154 (Hours of Jacques of Langeac). Guy XV
(François), count of Laval from 1484 until his death in January
1501, is identified as the original patron and owner by his arms in
the border and in the miniature on fol. 1. This is followed by an
extensive sequence, sixty-six images in all, of scenes from the
life, martyrdom, miracles, and translation of St Denis, each next
to a text initial within a full border.
