    [80] leaves.
    Note:
    Tight Gothic bookhand; long lines (10.5 x 6.5cm.).
    Written by at least four hands in Latin; ruled in light red ink.
    Initials unrealized.
    In an original monastic binding of contemporary reverse calf over wooden boards; remnants of original leather straps; original smooth spine, paper title-piece with title in ink; remnants of metallic "nails" or "hinges" on bottom cover (used to fasten leather straps); spine damaged, with some scruffing or wormholes to covers.
    Rake ruling in lead and ink.
    Mostly in quires of 8 and 12 (collation i-iii8, iv4, v-viii12, ix4); some quires detached.
    Watermarks variants of Briquet nos. 7872 (Milan, 1403) and 7875 (Milan, 1425).
    Documents a critical moment in the struggle between the Conventual and Observant Franciscans by bringing together diverse texts, including a penitential tract, papal bulls received by prominent Perugian Franciscans in 1409, indulgences, and extracts from Canon Law, all of which make a case for the Conventuals against the Observants, especially favouring their right to hear confessions.
    Perhaps made for the monastery of Monteripido in Perugia, which played a role in this conflict.
    Bound with the Interrogationes de peccatis; excerpts from Godfrey of Viterbo's Liber memorialis, or, Memoriae seculorum; excerpts from Bernard of Clairvaux's In laudibus virginis matris, and other Marian sermons.
    Annotations on front pastedown refer to visits to Siena in 1443, including one by Pope Eugene IV.
