Description
  • Text: Psalm 1. Historiated initial 'B(eatus)' with St. Dominic holding scroll. Smaller initials in champ style, others with penwork flourishing. Full panel border with Christ on the cross, St Catherine of Siena (?) in Dominican habit, holding crucifix, in medallion formed by laurel wreath. In lower border: two angels maintain a heart on fire by means of a rope. Beside the fire is a small kneeling female saint with long hair (St. Mary Magdalen?). On scroll above the heart are the letters 'B.P.T.A.'. To the right is a pot/vase from which flowers grow. Landscape at the back with city. Rest of border decorated with foliate motifs, acanthus leaves, pomegranate and strawberry.
