Description
  • Giovanni Boccaccio’s vernacular romance of the story of Florio, who takes the name of Filocolo as a disguise, and his beloved, Biancofiore, was composed in 1336-8. This manuscript was written in humanistic script by Andreas de Laude in Mantua, with illumination perhaps by Pietro Guindaleri, for Ludovico III Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua (letter from the scribe, Andreas de Laude asking for an interim payment, 30 Jan. 1464). Arms of the Gonzaga of Mantua. The borders and initials are of strapwork interlace on gold ground. Average folio size: 364 x 242 mm.
