Latin Gospels written and illuminated in Ireland by Macregol,
probably identifiable as the abbot of Birr (d. 821 or 822), with
interlinear gloss (literal translation) in Old English added in
England by the scribes Farmon and Owun in the second half of the
10th century.
Decoration: Full-page evangelist portrait (Matthew missing) and
facing full-page illumination at start of each Gospel, smaller
illuminated initials.
