  • This manuscript contains the Historia Scholastica (Scholastic History) by the theologian Petrus Comestor (d. 1187). The Historia offers a retelling of the Old and New Testaments and was a popular work in the later Middle Ages. It also includes excerpts from the Chronica de tribus maximis circumstantiis gestorum (The Chronicle on the Three Chief Conditions of History) by Hugh of Saint-Victor (b. c . 1096, d. 1141). Contents: ff. 1r-266v: Petrus Comestor, Historia Scholastica , imperfect at the beginning, lacking chapters 1-2 of the Book of Genesis, and, at the end, lacking the chapters of the entire Book of Acts, beginning: ‘habet pro super ferebatur incubabat’. ff. 267r-272v: Excerpts from the Chronica de tribus maximis circumstantiis gestorum by Hugh of Saint-Victor, beginning: ‘post diluvium quartum primum in humano genere regna’. Decoration:Large initials in red, some with penwork decoration. Numerous marginal annotations with decorated borders in red ink. Rubrics in red. Highlighting of letters in red. Quire signatures with simple decoration.
