    22 folios (14 + viii) Leaf height: 216 mm, width: 180 mm.
    Binding:

    Original binding of brown stamped leather over wooden boards; five bosses on each side, clasp.


    Decoration:
    Coloured drawings throughout of alchemical subjects. Notes appear in red and black ink.

    Miniatures

    17 coloured illustrations. 2v: N1: a naked Queen stands before a tree in fruit with a bird perched just above her head, the sun is to her right, the moon to her left, more birds are to the sides; beneath her is distilling equipment.
    3r: N2: a central monument from which a man leans pointing downwards, above are flasks, birds and stars; to the left stand six people and a lion, to the right a person cuts off the paws of another lion with a sword, watched by five people.
    3v: N3: Separation and Conjunction for the Red Elixir: on the left two birds clasp their own tails to form a figure eight; on the right a naked king and queen embrace in a flask.
    4r: N4: Elixir for the Red.
    4v: N5: The Rebis - a winged hermaphrodite, with a male head on its right and a female head on its left holds a sword in the right hand and a crown in the left; it stands on a two-headed beast which also has human faces on its underbelly.
    5r: N6: Putrefaction Rebis - a winged hermaphrodite, with a male head on its right and a female head on its left holds a coiled snake in the right hand and a cup containing three snakes in the left; it stands on a golden stone and a silver stone from which flow waters the feed the sun and moon respectively; a beast at the foot of the page drinks the waters.
    5v: N7: The master, "Hermes" instructs five pupils how to make silver and gold.
    6r: N8: "Solvirt die Corper zu Wasser" - in the centre a queen above a king; to the left four women bathe in a 'moon' fountain, to the right four men bathe in a 'sun' fountain.
    7v: N10: a crowned mermaid pierces Christ with a spear, a naked woman stands between them; to the right is a furnace containing three flasks.
    8r: N11: Der König und die Königin - a crowned hermaphrodite, with a male head on its right and a female head on its left, carries a sceptre.
    8v: N12: Forma Speculi Trinitae - Christ crucified, dressed in black with wings; above his crown sits a three-headed bird, in each hand is a crown on which sits a bird, at each foot are the head and shoulders of a man.
    9r: N13: Figura Speculi Sancte Trinitatis - in the centre two men crown a woman, beneath is a shield on which a woman supports the crucified body of Christ; at the four corners are the symbols of the Evangelists.
    13v: Generation of the Three Principles: coloured drawing of a distilling process.
