Description
  • This manuscript contains two theological works by St Augustine of Hippo and a work concerning the miracles and martyrdom of St Andrew ( Passio Altera Sancti Andreae apostoli ). Its place of origin is unknown but it was probably produced in France or Germany: other copies of the Passio that have been identified by Max Bonnett (‘Passio sancti Andreae apostoli’ (1894), 373-78) were probably all written in France of Germany. Contents: ff. 1r-12r: Augustine of Hippo, De Medela Animae (On the Healing of the Soul), beginning ‘Prima via salutis est homini fideli timor dei’. ff. 12r-16r: Passio Altera Sancti Andreae Apostoli [also known as Conversante ] (The Second Martyrdom of St Andrew the Apostle), beginning ‘Quod oculis nostris vidimus omnes presbyteri’. ff. 16v-78v: Augustine of Hippo, Tractatus ex Epistola Sancti Johannis (Treatise from the Letter of St John) or Sermones X super Epistolam Johannis (Ten Sermons on the Letter of John), imperfect due to the loss of folios at the end; includes Sermons I-VIII. Decoration:Large plain initials in red (oxidised). Rubrics in red.
