Description
  • Emblematic binding. Italian (Rome), mid 16th century. Dark brown goatskin, with gilt border, and a cameo of Apollo and Pegasus in the centre. Bound for the young Genoese patrician Giovanni Battista Grimaldi (c. 1524–c. 1612). Grimaldi's books were colourcoded to indicate whether they were by 'ancient' or 'modern' authors.
