- A petition submitted to Archbishop Laud in 1638 by the milliners of
the Royal Exchange on behalf of the "Imbrederers working in their
own homes" who had for many years covered Bibles, Testaments and
Psalm books for the "nobility and gentry". Seeking permission to
continue to sell Bibles in embroidered bindings. Laud instructed an
investigation of the claims to be made.
