- This manuscript contains a selection of the Sermones (Sermons) by Bernard of Clairvaux (b. 1090, d. 1153), abbot of Clairvaux and one of the leading theologians of the 12th century. The manuscript was produced in England in the 12th century and belonged to the Carthusian abbey of Witham in the 15th century. Contents: ff. 1r-155r: Bernard of Clairvaux, Sermones (Sermons), beginning: ‘Hodie fratres, celebramus Adventus initium’. [f. 155v is blank].Decoration:Numerous large initials in green and red with arabesque motifs and pen-flourishing. Numerous small initials in red and green. Highlighting in red. Rubrics in red.
