At face value these part-books of music for the Prayer Book
services appear to be made up from two editions, the first being
issued in 1560 and the second in 1565. However, research has
established that there was only one edition, originally planned for
1560 but not completed until five years later. The reason for the
delay may well have been the more urgent need to provide part-books
for the melodies of the metrical psalter, which was growing in
popularity.
