Binding:
Quarter binding with brown leather on spine and boards. Red and off-white thread on endbands. Sewn on two raised cords.
Decoration:
Folio 1a: Pen and ink drawing of a bird.
Folio 2a: Pen and ink doodles.
Folio 3a: Various pen and ink drawings: knot motifs; a decorative letter samech; candelabras (?).
Folio 9a: Small rectangular panel with pen strokes underneath a line of text.
Folio 11a: Many initial letters are decorated with crowns.
Folio 51a: Doodle in the margin.
Folio 58a: Several small ink lines.
Folio 62b: Spiral-shaped ink drawing on top of the page.
Folio 82a: Zigzag line in the left margin.

Acquired by The John Rylands Library from the heirs of Moses Gaster in 1954.

Collation:
Catchwords at the bottom left corner of side b of each folio. Catchword on folio 30b does not match with the next folio.
Script:

Abstract:
Mahzor containing liturgical poems for New Year (Rosh ha-Shanah), the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). Occasional rubrics in Judeo-Arabic. Folios 1-10 and 125-142 are made of different paper from the rest of the manuscript. Folios 4b-7b now contain a few songs (pizmonim), added by a different hand. The manuscript has a horizontal format.
Foliation:
Modern pencil foliation in Arabic numerals at the top outer corner of side a of each folio. One unnumbered folio between folios 6 and 7, two between 10 and 11 and one between 68 and 69. The number 124 has been missed out.

Front paste-down: Number 1821 handwritten in blue crayon.
Folios 1a-4a and 130b-142b: Pen trials and notes in Hebrew.
Folio 1a: Several ownership notes, including Isaac [...], Hayyim Ibn Dunan [...].
Folio 9a: ownership note in Hebrew reading " זה הספר שלי אני מאיר אזולאי הצעיר".
Folio 11a: Handwritten note in pencil reading "N. 26" and number 1821 handwritten in ink.
Folio 132a: Owner's note: Simeon.
Condition:
Spine partly exposed. Sewing fragile and boards detaching from text block. Bookworm holes.
