  • This manuscript contains the Consolatio Philosophiae (The Consolation of Philosophy) of Boethius (b. 480, d. 524) with interlinear and marginal glosses, De Metris Boetii Libellus (A Treatise on Boethius’ Meter) by Lupus of Ferrières (b. 805, d. 862) and the Ilias Latina (Latin Illiad) by Baebius Italicus (fl. 60). It also contains the Saturae (Satires) of the Roman poet Persius (b. 34, d. 62), the Commentary on Plato’s Timaeus by Calcidius (fl. 4th century), the Psychomachia (The Struggle in the Soul) and the Cathemerinon (Hymns) by Prudentius (b. 348, d. 413). Contents: ff. 1r-16v: A continuous gloss on Boethius' Consolatio Philosophiae . ff. 17r-59r: Boethius, Consolatio Philosophiae , with contemporary interlinear and marginal glosses. ff. 59r-60v: Lupus of Ferrières, De Metris Boetii Libellus , beginning: ‘quinque philosophice consolationis insignis auctor Boecius’. ff. 60v-70r: Aulus Persius Flaccus, Saturae , with interlinear glosses, beginning: ‘nec fonte labra prolui caballino’. ff. 70r-74v: Commentary on Persius’ Saturae , beginning: ‘Persius diu hesitans utrum milicie pocius’. ff. 75r-88r: Calcidius, Commentary on Plato’s Timaeus , beginning: ‘Socrates in exortationibus suis’. ff. 88v-95v: Prudentius, Psychomachia , beginning: ‘Senex fidelis prima credendi via est’. ff. 95v-101v: Prudentius, Cathemerinon , beginning: ‘germine Nobilis Eululalia’. f. 102r: A short tract on prosody and meter, beginning: ‘ne per exemplum’. ff. 102v-108r: Baebius Italicus, Ilias Latina , beginning: ‘Iram pande michi pelide diua superbi’ and ending: ‘illa lire graciles extenso pollice cordas’. Decoration:A diagram depicting the wheel of fortune in brown ink (f. 49v). A large ‘XPE’ monogram in brown and red (f. 89r). 8 large decorated initials with arabesque in brown and red ink (ff. 75r, 88v, 96v, 97v, 98v, 99r, 101r, 101v). Large decorated initials in brown ink. Numerous small initials in brown ink with red highlighting. Capitals in brown ink.
