A Dutch bookbinder's workshop, c. 1700 This detailed engraving of a
bookbinder's shop placed above a pious verse shows a binder seated
at a sewing frame sewing a book while another binder stands at a
post, beating folded printed sheets. A bookbinder's plough which is
used to trim the edges of books and a gluepot are in the
foreground. While this is an idealized depiction, it offers
important information on both binding methods and tools. Douce L
