  • c. 1321-1341
Language
  • Latin
Title
  • Psalter (also known as the 'Barlow Psalter').
Description
  • The standard page of this manuscript has 19 long lines and the height of the various initials is given as lines. The importance of the different psalms is indicated by the size of the initials, which range from the 8 lines of the opening Beatus initial to the 4-line initial of Psalm 51. Choir Psalter (Gallican) made and finely illuminated in East Anglian style for use at the Benedictine Abbey of Peterborough. It was presumably made for the Peterborough monk Walter de Rouceby: a notice of his death in 1341 appears on fol. 7r and an inscription recording his former ownership at fol. 2r.
