38 pages, 15 cm., stiched, single quire. Notes:
The diary covers the period from Sept. 17 through Nov. 20, 1776 and
describes the march from Dorchester to New York, the last stages of
the New York Campaign, including the battle of White Plains (Oct.
28); camp life, (including punishment meted out to soldiers of his
regiment, prayer meetings, sermons, etc.) The rest of the
manuscript consists of miscellaneous accounts of payments received
for "mending." Biographical Note:
Jeremiah McIntosh (1751-1843), of Dorchester, Mass., private of
Capt. Ebenezer Gore's company of Cololnel William McIntosh's
regiment of Massachusetts militia. He enlisted on Sept 17, 1776,
for two months; before that he had served as private in Capt.
Samuel Heath's Company of Massachusetts Minute Men in the Lexington
Alarm, and as orderly sergeant of Capt. George Gould's Company in
Colonel Sergeant's Regiment (May-Dec., 1775). Subjects:
