Description
  • Summary:
Manuscript 118 contains five texts related to Saint Augustine (354-430): (ff. 1r-20v) De fide ad Petrum; (ff. 20v-53v) De vera religione (preceded by two folia of the Retractiones); (ff. 53v-61v) the Epistula ad Macedonium; (ff. 61v-105r) Contra epistulam Parmeniani (preceded by another page of the Retractiones); and (ff. 105r-187r) De baptisma contra Donatistas. The first text is erroneously attributed to him in the manuscript; currently De fide is ascribed to Fulgentius of Ruspe (467-533). In general, all texts share the theme of 'true faith', either by affirming correct beliefs and practices or by attacking heresies in polemics, the latter being a activity Augustine was (in)famous for. All five texts have been copied by a single scribe at Ten Duinen abbey, in the first quarter of the thirteenth century. The text is organized in two columns and is decorated with initials in (primarily) red and (occasionally) blue. It is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type.
