Description
  • Antiphonarium Augustense (Augsburg: Erhard Ratdolt, 23 Feb. 1495)
The Antiphonal (or Antiphoner) was the principal medieval choir book, and contained the chants of the Office. The title is derived from the way the verses of the service were sung alternately by the two halves of the choir sitting opposite one another. This edition is for the use of Augsburg, and is a fine example of early music printing showing Gothic neumes printed on staves of four red lines.
