    Nineteenth-century full black buckram; double gilt fillet to form a border; gilt-tooled board edges and turn-ins; marbled end-papers; five raised bands to spine; direct-lettered in gilt in second and sixth compartments: Petrarcha / 1501 1st Lyons Cft.; all edges gilt.

    Part of the Christie Collection, bequeathed to the Victoria University of Manchester by Richard Copley Christie in 1901

    A counterfeit of the 1st Aldine edition of 1501, without the colophon, the 4 leaves containing Aldus' letter to the reader, and the errata list; most of the Aldine errata have been corrected in this edition. Another counterfeit edition may be distinguished from this one by its foliation (in roman up to leaf 64, in arabic thereafter); see UCLA online catalog.
