    Binding:

Modern morocco binding by Francis Bedford, bookbinder of London.

    1840-1883.

    Decoration:

Folio 50v: Frontispiece to St. Mark. Under an arch, painted in gold and red and white. In the upper part, on a dark blue ground, is the winged hust of the Lion, red, holding a red book. Below, in what is perhaps meant for an apse, sits Mark, turning head to the left, holding up a pen to his ear, and touching a book on a desk on the right, which is inscribed in red rustic capitals, 'Vox clamantis in deserto parate uiam domini'. He is clothed in purple and red. His seat is a square block with cushion. Bischoff considers this to be an exact copy of the Mark in the Lorsch Gospels.
