Description
  • Summary:
Manuscript 157 contains two texts once thought to have been written by Hugh of Saint-Victor (d. 1141), an important pre-Thomist scholastic theologian and a prolific writer: (ff. 1v-37v) De arrha anime; (ff. 38r-113r) Speculum ecclesie. Of these, the authorship of the second text has been debated. The manuscript was copied in the last quarter of the twelfth century, probably in the scriptorium of Ten Duinen. The text is copied in a single column. Initials have been added in alternately red and blue, with the larger ones at the beginning of each text with additional decoration (f. 1v + 38r). Rubrics and chapter numbers are in red ink. The last verso bears an ownership inscription of Ten Duinen. On the fly leaves are several notes and lines of text, mostly in a fifteenth-century cursive hand. One of these hands has written the titles of the two works on the front fly leaf.
