Description
  • Historiated initial 'H' of St. Bernard preaching to monks and nuns. In border, portrait head. Lower margin has garden with roses, violets, strawberries and vines. St. Giustina, martyr and Queen of Padua and small black robed monk kneels holding a scroll with the words 'Iste liber est mei Iustine virginis et martyris ac regine urbis Patavii.'
    Written by the monk Peregrinus for the Benedictine monastery of St. Giustina in Padua. The manuscript apparently came into the possession of Pietro Bembo who lived in Padua from 1521.
