Anonymous motet for 3 voices, 2 violins and bass, copied early
eighteenth-century. Later eighteenth-century hands have added the
ascription 'Iaco. Carissimi', but the attribution remains
doubtful.
Extent: ii + 12 + ii. 450 x 293 mm.
Hand: Italic script copied in score by Richard Goodson Jr.
Decoration: No decoration except for two parallel fillets at edges;
at the centre of the upper cover, a red leather inset is tooled in
gold: 'IN TE DOMINE / SPERAVI / JACO. CARISSIMI'.
Binding: Late eighteenth-century binding of white parchment over
boards. The volume was bound at Christ Church as part of an
uncompleted binding project intended to protect previously unbound
items from the Aldrich and Goodson bequests. No trace remains of
any earlier binding.
