Orderly book of Matthew Dixon's command, including general orders
from Howe's headquarters and "chief engineer's orders" during the
New York campaign (1776). Biographical Note:
On Aug. 14, 1776, Major Matthew Dixon of the Corps of Engineers was
appointed "Chief Engineer to the Army in North America," replacing
John Motressor who had accepted the assignment of the aid-de-camp
to Sir William Howe. Matthew Dixon previously served in Nova Scotia
