Manuscript map depicting the Penobscot Expedition, 1779, the battle
between American Revolutionary Forces and British Forces on land
and water on the Penobscot River, Maine. The location of the forts
are depicted, as well as the American fleet, the British Fleet, and
the aftermath of the attack in which the American fleet was driven
up river and destroyed. The map's title is within a decorated
cartouche, seen in the upper left-hand corner. "References",
labeled A-P, are listed in the lower right-hand corner of the map.
