Description
  • Summary:
Manuscript 252 contains books 10 to 18 of the Speculum Doctrinale - Mirror of doctrine - by Vincent of Beauvais (c. 1190-1264). Mirror of doctrine is the second part of Speculum Maius - the Great Mirror -, a compendium of medieval knowledge. Other parts of the Great Mirror are the Speculum Naturale and the Speculum Historiale. Mirror of doctrine deals with the subjects of grammar, logic, rhetoric, poetry, virtue, medicine, astronomy, agriculture, engineering, politics and law. The manuscript dates back to the fourteenth century. It was part of the Ter Doest library. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Sarah Vanroye]
