Description
  • The miracle of the Mass of St. Gregory. Round- topped miniature by a later hand. Nimbed figure of Pope Gregory, blue cloak, between two acolytes with lighted candles, all kneeling at the altar, on which open book, chalice, paten and Papal triple tiara are displayed. Two cardinals kneeling behind them. Above altar appears the figure of the risen Christ in a mandorla of gold rays. In background of church interior are instruments of the Passion, cross, ladder, sponge, scourge, cock, etc. seen above screen of blue damask patterned gold. Surround border with filigree pattern, leaves and flowers. Start of prayer with decorated initial D(omine ih[es]u christe).
