Physical Description:
2 p. : A.L.S. Notes:
William Herschel writes to fellow astronomer Edward Pigott,
returning a copy of Les Connoissance des Temps and a telescope. He
is keeping, as Pigott agreed, the copy of Connoissance from 1758 to
refer to a map of the moon. He gives details on the powers of the
telescope and suggests measurements for the refracting glass. He
hopes that Pigott will let William Herschel know if he observes
anything, especially after obtaining correct lines of altitude. Biographical Note:
William Herschel was an English astronomer. He discovered Uranus in
1781. Physical Collection:
Letters by Sir William Herschel, 1777-1807.
