Miniature from a book of hours, depicting Christ for Pilate by the
Master of Otto van Moerdrecht. Note:
'Christ for Pilate' was taken from the same codex as two other
loose miniatures: 'Burial of Christ (kept in Cambridge, Fitzwilliam
Museum under shelfmark 27-1991) and 'Virgin with Child' (kept in
Cleveland Museum of Art, under shelfmark 12828/10). Similar style
of miniatures in ms. The Hague, Royal Library, 135 K 45). Cf. Van
Bergen 2007. - With a contemporary stamp of letter 'b' in the upper
right corner (hidden in the decoration). - Early use as devotional
image, in view of the passion prayer in French on the verso
(c.1500?), written in an untrained hand.
