Description
  • Summary:
Manuscript 56, dating from the twelfth century, is a composite manuscript with two parts that contain a commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. The first commentary is ascribed to Galfredus Babio (d. 1158-). The second part contains the Gospel of Matthew with the Glossa ordinaria. The Gospel of Matthew starts with an illuminated initial L(iber generationis). An angel is portrayed against a blue background with a scroll in its hand (F. 128). Folios 1 and 2 are flyleaves. Folio 1r-2r carries a fragment from the Song of Songs; folio 2v contains a list of readings from the Gospel of Matthew for Sundays and important feasts. Folio 1v is foliated in a way that was typical for the Dunes scriptorium. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type, with gold tooling.
