Description
  • Extent:
    [126] leaves.
    Note:
    Leaves [1-3] and [124] verso-[126] in a later hand.
Bound in contemporary oak boards with plain brown leather covering; sewn on four exposed raised bands.
    Gothic minuscule script; 1 column of 14 lines (80 x 60 mm.).
Written by several hands in Latin with some rubrics in French; in black ink with ornamental initials in gold, red, and blue; eight pages contain illuminated borders and initials.
The liturgical calendar follows the Arras usage, with special attention given to the feasts of saints peculiar to that region (e.g. St Legier, St Aubert, St Bertin, St Geri, St Vindicien and St Winnoc). The multiple celebrations of the feast of the Merovinigian bishop, St Vaast throughout the year (6 Feb., 13 Feb., 15 Jul., 1 Oct.) suggest that this book was probably created for the monastic church of St Vaast in Arras.
Leaf [61] verso and [62] recto slightly damaged; leaves [101]-[103] ruled, but without text added.
With catchwords and some evidence of pricking.
Title from: Bond & Faye, Supplement, p. 534, no. 18.
Acquired from the ROM, 28 Jan. 1975.
